In a game full of incident and excitement, Red Star pulled off its most impressive win of the season. Not only did our guys beat the defending KHL champion and record a first ever victory against Ak Bars, they did it after recovering from a hammer-blow midway through the game.

Sibir’s 11th successive defeat, this time going down 0-5 at SKA, sets a new KHL record for the worst start to a season. Elsewhere, Ak Bars scored three goals in 41 seconds but still lost at home to Kunlun Red Star. There were home wins for Torpedo and Neftekhimik, while Matthew Frattin gaev Barys a shoot-out win at Vityaz. Salavat Yulaev won 3-1 at Dinamo Minsk.

Avtomobilist made it 10 wins from 10 – but only after an epic struggle at home to Lokomotiv. Elsewhere, Metallurg edged Severstal 2-1, Spartak cruised to a 4-1 win at Slovan and Sochi pushed CSKA all the way to a shoot-out. The Baltic battle between Dinamo Riga and Jokerit also ended 1-1 in regulation, with Dinamo taking the verdict thanks to Linus Videll.

Ask any coach about the value of strong goaltending, and he’ll likely talk about how the netminder is 50% of the team. Sergei Shirokov’s overtime winner brought Avangard its ninth win from 10 games despite a brave battle from Amur. In Moscow, Dynamo suffered another defeat as Barys forward Matt Frattin scored 2+1 in a 3-2 overtime success. Kunlun Red Star frustrated Neftekhimik to win 2-0 in Nizhnekamsk, Traktor suffered another heavy defeat and Ak Bars inflicted a 10th successive loss on Sibir.
