The Urals was the place to be in today’s KHL. While Avtomobilist was reeling off its 11th successive victory in Yekaterinburg, Metallurg and Dynamo shared 11 goals in Magnitogorsk. Elsewhere, CSKA beat Spartak in the Moscow derby, Sakari Manninen inspired Jokerit to victory at Slovan and there were road wins for Lokomotiv and Sochi.

In a game full of incident and excitement, Red Star pulled off its most impressive win of the season. Not only did our guys beat the defending KHL champion and record a first ever victory against Ak Bars, they did it after recovering from a hammer-blow midway through the game.

Sibir’s 11th successive defeat, this time going down 0-5 at SKA, sets a new KHL record for the worst start to a season. Elsewhere, Ak Bars scored three goals in 41 seconds but still lost at home to Kunlun Red Star. There were home wins for Torpedo and Neftekhimik, while Matthew Frattin gaev Barys a shoot-out win at Vityaz. Salavat Yulaev won 3-1 at Dinamo Minsk.

Avtomobilist made it 10 wins from 10 – but only after an epic struggle at home to Lokomotiv. Elsewhere, Metallurg edged Severstal 2-1, Spartak cruised to a 4-1 win at Slovan and Sochi pushed CSKA all the way to a shoot-out. The Baltic battle between Dinamo Riga and Jokerit also ended 1-1 in regulation, with Dinamo taking the verdict thanks to Linus Videll.
