Joonas Jarvinen is Red Star’s all-time record appearance making. In two seasons with the club, the defenseman featured in exactly 100 games (95 regular season and five playoff) and collected 17 (4+13) points for his efforts. Along the way, he earned a call-up for the 2017 World Championship, where he represented Finland in Paris and Cologne. And now, the big Finn is back for more!
The 29-year-old Turku native returned to his homeland in the summer and signed a deal with Tappara – the former club of our head coach Jussi Tapola. There, he featured in 14 Liiga games and two more Champions Hockey League encounters, but the lure of the Orient was too strong. With Red Star seeking a replacement for the injured Krisjanis Redlihs, who will miss the rest of the season having played just six games for us, the Jarvinator was an obvious candidate: familiar with Red Star, proven in the KHL and available to rejoin the team in early November during our current road trip. Here’s to the next 100 games!
